It’s not always easy choosing a nursery. Entrusting your child to someone else’s care is a big decision. So we’re keen to give you the clearest picture of what everyone here at Clerkenwell Mount Nursery is all about. We want you to have all the information you need to make the right decision for your child and for you.
Clerkenwell Mount Nursery is located in a charming, Grade II listed building formed by converting two adjoining town houses in the heart of Clerkenwell. The building was fully renovated prior to opening; providing four floors for the care of 52 children.
There is a small Garden at the rear of the property fitted with decking and astro turf that projects from our “Garden Room”, a large airy room that enables us to extend outdoor play activities inside the building in a fun and active way.
We’re open 51 weeks of the year, closing for one week during Christmas (24th December to 1st January). We also close for two staff training days every year.

Making sure children are nurtured and parents are happy. In August 2016 Clerkenwell received their first Ofsted inspection and were awarded a “Good.” The inspection was very positive and as a new Nursery opened for less than 2 years this is a huge achievement. Our other Nursery; Yardley Forest in Chingford, was awarded a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating two weeks after we acquired it in 2014. We are determined to reach ‘Outstanding’ at both our sites at the next inspection. We strive to be exceptional in everything we do, and we put particular emphasis on helping children to learn. Our approach is child-led, encouraging everyone from babies to pre-school children to follow their interests and supporting each one in their journey.
We believe it’s our job to make every child feel welcome, safe, cared for, paid attention to, understood, able to express their unique personalities and celebrated for who they are. We make sure your child is free to explore, discover, learn and grow. We help them have fun and make friends. And we’re always there to wipe away a tear if they get the wobbles. We aim to be the next best place to home.
It’s also our job to understand and accept your approach to parenting, so that it’s reflected in the way we interact with your child. We want to work in partnership with you, nurturing your child’s wellbeing, learning and development in line with your thinking and feelings. And we do everything we can to provide the flexibility that makes your life that little bit easier.
Established in 2013, our organisation aims to provide the highest quality, most engaging, exciting and sought after day care for children aged from 3 months to 5 years. We describe ourselves as ‘Nurturing Every Nature’ because, by celebrating the fact that every child is unique, we can nurture and cherish every individual nature – taking full account of backgrounds, abilities or interests – through our natural and nature-focused approach to learning and play.
As well as the 52 places at Clerkenwell Mount Nursery, we provide 48 places at our Yardley Forest Nursery – a beautiful old lodge house, nestled on the edge of Epping Forest with half an acre of grounds.
Our selection process and fee structure favours children attending for three or more days per week, which we believe to be the optimum attendance level for children’s development.
To join our waiting list for a place, we require a £75.00 registration fee – £50.00 of which is refundable if we do not offer your child a place. On acceptance of a place, we require a £400.00 deposit. This £400.00 deposit becomes refundable and can be used as part payment for your final month’s fees, after giving the appropriate notice period.
We also offer a sibling discount of 10%, which is applied to the eldest child whilst two or more siblings are attending the nursery. For full fee information and our terms and conditions, please contact us.
Designed to deliver the best possible experience for children and their families – and continuously reviewed and refined – our comprehensive policies and procedures apply to all management, staff, students and volunteers working within the business. For a copy of our policies and procedures statement and our terms and conditions, please contact us.
Our child-led approach to learning is based on our belief that every child is unique. We plan and research the most helpful and rewarding activities using only the highest quality resources. We go beyond standard practise in enabling children to learn, grow and develop at their own speed – nurturing both their educational and emotional wellbeing.
The value we place on healthy living and wellbeing is highlighted in our sourcing and preparation of the food that makes up our changing daily menus. Planned to support the energy, creativity and individual requirements of the children we care for, our menus are diverse, multicultural, colourful, fresh and balanced. Everything is freshly prepared and cooked on site by our full time cook. From personal preferences to allergies, we cater for every individual dietary need.
We believe that movement, nature, the outdoors and physical activity are hugely valuable to children’s wellbeing. From Forest School activities led by our trained practitioners to indoor music and yoga workshops, we encourage every child to get involved, get active and have fun. Whether indoors or outside, our focus is on interacting with nature with play and activities that use wooden toys and natural materials. We also provide unique opportunities for children such as learning languages like Mandarin or Spanish, football or multi skills and educational visits from exotic animals and their handlers.
We work full days – rather than shifts – so you are greeted at drop-off and get feedback at pick-up from the same carer. We also believe that having the same face settling them down for a nap and then waking them up later is fundamental to children’s sense of security and emotional wellbeing.
We pride ourselves on having more and higher qualified staff than the nursery sector average. And our key person system – ensuring every child is supported by a key person at all times – is hugely successful in helping children to settle, thrive and get the most from their nursery experience.
To keep you fully informed, we securely store daily updates and development information which you can easily and safely access by downloading the Parent Zone app. Just as importantly, we encourage face-to-face interaction between you and your child’s key person, plus other members of our team. Daily chats, however brief, can make a big difference to everyone’s wellbeing.
If you’ve got any questions, want more information or just want to arrange a casual visit to have a chat and get more of a feel for what we’re all about, please get in touch.
